Hi,
Just rename temp.bin to temp.dat and use the update any rom procedure you can find as sticky on this forum. Also please read the posts in the thread first as these questions have been asked at least three times already just above. If you have an X500 why do you want to use the ROM from the X800 ? Just take the file for x500 from Panot's first post in the first page, rename the temp.bin from the archive to temp.dat and use the update any rom to flash that file to your device from win xp. Good luck.
sorry, i meant x500, not x800. and i have already read the whole thread, but that did not solve my problem. and even if i rename the temp.bin into temp.dat, and try to update, the action key dialogue appears on the x500 screen ....although the updater is not greyed out, i don't know if i can ignore the action key verification and press update instead.... ?

@Panot
You have done excellent work and it is much appreciated !!
Some questions:
1) which software tools are you using, please ? Are they adaptations of the xda-developers "Kitchen" packages, and if so, where to download them ? I am using the HTC kitchens for my P3650, are they suitable for Eten ROM's ?
2) my thought on placing programs like Total Commander in ROM is that when Mr Ghisler releases an update, you have to uninstall the ROM-supplied version and install the new one, but the older version is still in compressed ROM taking up Storage
3) I agree that these ROM's need NetCF3.5
I hope you can read this post through the clutter of the threads here

K, let's take it step by step:
1. I presume you have already downloaded :
http://rapidshare.co...ver.2.9_ENG.rar
Estract temp.bin from it and rename it temp.dat.
2. Download :
http://rapidshare.co...pgrade.zip.html
Extract the files into a directory and copy the temp.dat file from step 1 into the same directory you have extracted them
3. Boot you PDA into today screen and connect it to your PC. Wait untill Active Sync says "connected".
4. Remove the mini SD card from the pda then start update.bat from the directory. The update process works as a normal update:
PDA restarts in boot mode,
"waiting download"
Press UPDATE in win update module
wait for update to finish (it will say again waiting for download but it's actually finished) and soft reset PDA
If you get a screen full of "ERROR!!ERROR!!" don't worry. Restart PDA and restart process from step 4.
The end
Good luck.

I can remove Total Commander from the ROM and put it to the Ext.ROM.

Which application needs .nCF3.5? Because this will waste our small ram.
Could you make something like a clear panot-edition only with your magic tricks (wlan button) and maybe this nice HTC Touch Phonestyle and WLAN Manager (+ etens patches for handfree, agps etc) ... and the htc-style calculator allready included into your rom. But without HTC Today... it's fat und uses 2mb of ram. Oh, and in german please :)

A version of NetCF is required in the ROM in any case, since many applications need to use this. At the moment, only Version2 is included.
CF3.5 is an improvement on CF2 and should replace it in the ROM, so "wasting" RAM is not an issue.

Hi!
I've been using Panot's light rom 2.9 for X500+ for some days now. Some programs are not working to me. Does somebody know if it is a problem with my configuration or is it something in the rom?
Not working:
- HButton: Crashes when I try to run HBSetup
- Phone Alarm 1.66.1 (full version): It is unable to turn the WiFi on or off
Edit: I commented about this in this post: http://eten-users.eu...=630#entry81957
- Windows Live Messenger (I've installed the cab Panot has posted in this thread): It is very very slow and does not open the messenger. Only the Search, I think. And it's screen is not updated correctly...
By the way, somebody told that FTouchSL is not working. But I can say that FTouchFlo 1.4 is.
I posted before that I've got some problems with checkboxes in the Mail aplication. Now, I've got these same errors in the Options screen of ActiveSync: when the checkbox is checked, its size is only 1/4 of the right size. When it's unchecked, just a void space is showed instead.
Thank you!
Akira

Panot, a new version of TC is released once a year. You are releasing a new ROM every week (wow!).
On a different topic, have you seen this post?
It says "* This ROM supports both SD and SDHC cards." It is an X500+ ROM so I can't test it (I have an X500), but if you can get this feature on your ROM, I'll ask my wife to have wet dreams about you.
(Just for the record: Panot, you are my hero! Donating ASAP)

Same thing here. I'm using PocketCM and frequently, a message "PocketCM is not a valid Pocket PC application" comes popping up. Moreover, my X500 has become very unstable after installing Panot's ROM. It keeps freezing on various actions, all in combination with 3rd party software like Sbp Mobile Shell or Sbp Mobile Suite, PocketCM, some SIPs and other stuff. I'd revert to the original ROM if I knew how...
Best wishes, Malte.

It is a problem of software compatibility and not ROM. There are no changes in the ROM to degrese stability.

That's what I thought at first, couldn't believe it's a ROM issue either. I tried omitting several of the mentioned software installs or used old versions that worked well under the "original" Eten ROM, however, to no avail.
I thus reverted back to the original Eten German WM6 ROM, installed all said software (Spb Mobile Suite and Mobile Shell, TomTom, some minor apps like calculator, stopwatch asf., and PocketCM plus PocketCM Keyboard). BTW, all commercial software is purchased, no tinkered download versions.
I'll see how this proceeds and report.
Best wishes,
Malte

+1 here.
However, this is a generic "catch all" kind of message that can be triggered by many errors.
Like an app loads a dll, then another app is run but it uses a newer version of the same dll. Since the older dll is already loaded, the new one is not loaded at all. The second app calls a function that is exported on the newer dll but not on the older one. This situation can trigger an "XXX is not a valid Pocket PC application".
I don't mean this is the actual problem with PocketCM (and some other apps) not starting sometimes. In fact, a quick check on my X500 doesn´t show multiple versions of significant dll´s.
What I mean is that this errors could be *indirectly* caused by Panot ROM just because some apps load in different order, or some dll´s are not loaded because some app is not run anymore.
