| ETEN x800 VS HTC P3600i Which one would you get? |

I am impatient to buy either the ETEN X800 or the HTC P3600i (upgraded from P3600). But I would like to get more input on which one would be better in quality and durability? From past experiences, which one would you say is better: ETEN or HTC?
Here is the comparision for both: http://pdadb.net/ind...a...820&id2=745
Also, I noticed one thing that the processor is the same for X800 and P3600i but P3600i supports miniSDHC. So it is possible to have microSDHC working in X800 as well (applying the X500 SDHC patch)?

I have put a thread up on the X500 forum page comparing just this question.

The X800 is being released for retail in dribs and drabs (Romania 1st, it seems), so a real comparison between the HTC P3600i and the X800 now seems possible.
I purchased a P3600i about 5 weeks ago (already own an X500, now as backup). My trade-off for no VGA, Qualcomm GPS, was availability, reliability (?) and SDHC capability.
The SDHC CAB patch file seems to take care of cards > 2 Gb for the ETEN devices. I'm using a 4Gb mini-SDHC on the P3600i.
VGA is still no issue for me, although it will be for others.
The P3600i has 256Mb flash ROM (I have about 122Mb left after loading God knows how many programs, > 200 anyway) and about 24Mb RAM on re-set. I still have just under half the 4Gb mini-SDHC card free ... and looking for an 8Gb mini-SDHC !
The Qualcomm GPS has a very slow TTFF but a Quick GPS Fix CAB patch with a valid server address has surfaced on xda-developers to fix this (works too). In fact, the downloaded data file (*.ee) is exactly the same data file that the ETEN devices download, so this too is a non-issue now.
I think the X800 may be about AUD $100 less than the P3600i - still too early to say for sure.
GSM/GPRS/3G/HSDPA work extremely well on the P3600i. It does not lose its BT/WLAN settings, even when the battery is removed.
The WLAN connection to a LAN is very, very fast compared to the X500. With the X800 ??
The SAMSUNG SC32442 500Mhz CPU in the P3600i is pretty snappy, and when the GDI/GLYPHCACHE registry value is lifted, graphics is very fast too, compared with the X500. Again, with the X800 ??

very nice post ;) but what is this patch you're talking about??
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GDI\GLYPHCACHE\
In the P3600i: default value is 16384
In the X500: default value is 8192
In both cases, I've altered this to 32768
Lifts graphics refresh rate without killing RAM requirements
From the preliminary results of the "I Have It" thread on the X800, this new device seems to lack a dedicated graphics chip to push the VGA refresh rate. This is exactly what we feared!! I just didn't believe in my heart that ETEN marketing were smart enough to wear the cost of including a graphics chip and then selling it a higher price.
Hence my trade-off 5 weeks ago for the P3600i

So what you are saying that if you change this Glyph Cache, we can get better results in performance for the video? That means that the index rating will change in the SPB Benchmark?

My understanding is that this is a "graphics cache" (I'm probably simplistic here)
Changing this registry value to something higher (like 32768) does decrease the screen response time.
I don't have or use SPB Benchmark software so "no answer" there.
This Registry change has been around for years, other people may have benchmark information.
